Surrey Resident Gets Equality Award At GMB Congress In Dublin
Brian’s commitment to inclusion and challenging discrimination has been inspiring says GMB.
Redhill resident Brian Shaw received the prestigious GMB President’s Award for the “Most Inspirational Individual on Equality in the GMB or at Work” at GMB Congress in Dublin today, 7th June, for his work as Chair of GMB’s National Equality Forum, his tireless work identifying and encouraging new reps and equality leaders for the union, and for spearheading the GMB Equality Through Inclusion strategy.
Brian has been campaigning and organising around equality in the trade union movement since the 1990s and is now vice chair of GMB Shout!, London Region’s LGBT group. Brian is leading GMB’s involvement with Pride later in June.
Brian received his award from Mary Turner, GMB National President, on Sunday 7th June along with other GMB award winners.
The 98th GMB Congress, comprising of 500 elected lay members, started in Dublin’s Citywest Conference Centre today Sunday 7th and runs to Thursday 11th June. There are also 300 visitors and guests. GMB Congress delegates are members who were elected to represent over 630,000 members from every part of the UK and Ireland and who are employed in every sector of the economy. Congress is the supreme policy making body in the union.
