AMAZON ‘HOLDING UK TAXPAYER HOSTAGE’ SAYS GMB
Amazon is showing its true colours - they care about the bottom line not the workers that generate their profits says GMB Union
GMB, Britain’s general union, has said Amazon is trying to hold the UK taxpayer hostage.
In a submission to Mr Hammond TechUK, which represents many large multinational firms including Amazon, has warned Chancellor Philip Hammond that they will pull post-Brexit investment from the UK if he goes ahead with a tax on digital sales in next week’s budget.
TechUk, writing on behalf of all of its clients presumably, has claimed that such a move by the Chancellor would result in firms pulling out of research and development investment in the UK, damaging post-Brexit “global Britain” ambitions.
Tim Roache, GMB General Secretary, said:
"Amazon is showing its true colours - they care about the bottom line not the workers who generate their profits.
“It's everyone's responsibility to pay tax because it's how we make sure we have schools, roads, a health service, care for the elderly, social services, all the things we hold dear in the UK..
“Amazon should pay their fair share too.
“It's an absolute disgrace and the Chancellor should not allow himself or UK taxpayers to be held hostage by corporate bandits."
