GMB RESPONDS TO BEIS EURATOM UPDATE
GMB, the energy union, has responded to the Government’s publication of the first quarterly update on Euratom,
Justin Bowden, GMB National Secretary, said:
“While land may now be in sight on the horizon, the good ship Euratom still has some choppy waters to navigate and their are treacherous rocks and reefs on which to run aground.
"Amongst a range of key actions that must be completed are ensuring the Goverment’s regulator, the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) has the resources and time to do its job properly and safely; and the negotiations concluded to put in place nuclear cooperation agreements (NCA’s) with the USA, Canada, Australia, Japan and a number of other countries crucial to our energy needs, the nuclear industry and the 66,000 people employed in it.”
