GMB Members Settle Brighton Cityclean Dispute
GMB’s notification of the withdrawal of any further industrial action will of course be subject to the agreement being formally signed by both sides
GMB has announced that there will be no further industrial action in the Brighton Cityclean dispute following a significantly revised offer from the Council which has been accepted by GMB members.
The dispute, which centred around proposed pay cuts of up to £4000 a head for staff within the city’s refuse, recycling and street cleansing departments led to a weeklong strike. Negotiations took place which led to a proposal to redesign the service which prevented pay losses for staff.
Mark Turner, GMB Branch Secretary said, “These negotiations have been both difficult and complex, but the resolute support and solidarity of GMB members have shown during this dispute, to protect their pay, has resulted in the current improved council offer being one which the membership were able to accept.
GMB’s notification of the withdrawal of any further industrial action will of course be subject to the agreement being formally signed by both sides.”
