Campaigners Call On Sir Philip Green To Cough Up

Thursday, February 23, 2017

Staff set to strike after shamed peer refuses to cough up decent pay.

Campaigners and MPs have called on disgraced peer Sir Philip Green to cough up as staff at a Topshop depot prepare to walk out again.

The shamed peer is now facing fresh strikes at TWO Topshop sites after he denied hard-working staff a decent wage.

Workers at Spectrum for Arcadia, a division of the DHL Logistics Supply Chain, in Solihull will walk out on Friday February 24 and Sunday February 26.

Staff will also down tools at the Leeds site.

The industrial action will throw Arcadia’s deliveries from Topshop, Miss Selfridge and Burton Menswear into chaos.

The knight of the realm recently faced calls from MPs to seize his £100million luxury yacht to plug a gaping pension’s black hole in his former company BHS. [1]

It followed unanimous vote by MPs to strip Green of his knighthood. [2]

MPs and Citizens UK have backed the industrial action and called on Sir Philip to pay staff a proper living wage. [3]

David Warwick, GMB organiser, said:

“Sir Philip seems to think it’s one law for him and one for everyone else as he floats around on his massive yacht.

“Well staff here are not going to take his meagre wages and exploitative contracts any more.

“We will stand together and fight for a decent wage hard-working, loyal staff deserve.”

Jack Dromey, MP and former deputy general secretary of T & G and founder member of the drive for a living wage, said:

“I am one hundred per cent behind these committed workers in their fight for a fair wage they can live on.

“I am incredibly proud Birmingham has become one of the most advanced cities in Europe with hundreds of employers subscribed to the living wage - both in the public and private sector.

“Sir Philip Green needs to get his act together and make sure Arcadia is one of them.”

Neil Jameson CBE, Executive Director of CUK said:

"Workers deserve a real Living Wage which meets the cost of living, that's why Citizens UK began organising around this issue back in 2001.

“Incredibly 16 years later the same issues still apply, 22% of UK workers aren't paid the real Living Wage.

"We know a hard day's work deserves a fair day's pay.

“Citizens UK fully support the workers taking action against Arcadia today.

“We encourage Sir Philip Green to do the right thing and pay everyone in his supply chain the real Living Wage."
