GMB Call For Details Of How Additional £800,000 From East Sussex Council For Schools Is To Be Spent
Details needed to ensure that this investment that East Sussex County Council is putting in gets to where it is intended and fast says GMB.
GMB, the union for school support staff, is asking for details of how the additional investment of £800,000 recently announced in order to accelerate East Sussex County Council’s "Excellence for All" strategy will be spent.
Rachel Verdin, GMB organiser, said “GMB welcome the new funds to address Offsted concerns as “Excellence for All’ is something all East Sussex residents and parents support.
We would like details of how this money will be spent to ensure we get value for our children’s education and for the committed staff who work in East Sussex schools.
GMB doubt whether the investment will be enough. We all know these are tough times but if we get the figures for investment spending wrong we will get the outcomes wrong too.
We are in a vicious circle where schools are looking to become academies due to lack of support from the council and that support further withers as more schools leave local authority control. The increasing wave of academies turns into a tide and this is adding to the lack of support that Offsted have highlighted. The increasing wave of academies turns into a tide and this is adding to the funding problems.
We need the details to ensure that this additional investment that East Sussex County Council is putting in gets to where it is intended to get to and fast. It must not get stuck in further bureaucracy.”
