Redundancy Consultation Regarded as a Sham at Key Consett Plant
GMB, the North East's biggest general union has attacked the process of consultation and is raising its concerns in respect of the future of the KP Factory at Consett, Co. Durham.
GMB says that the Factory as a key employer in the town should not be allowed to close and that the Union has repeatedly raised concerns throughout the process about consultation being a sham and meaningless.
GMB says that its members are disappointed at the Company's vague and generic answers to questions and proposals to save the site, with the Company always referring to their proposal as being the most appropriate; closing the site saving overheads by reducing the footprint of the Company.
GMB Northern Regional Organiser Suzanne Reid said:
“GMB members are deeply concerned about their future employment, they are very angry that the decision to close the factory seems to have been made some time ago with the consultation being nothing more than a farce"
"KP Consett, still known locally as Phileas Fogg, have a dedicated, loyal, hard working workforce with a wide skill set, it will be a disgrace and a huge loss to the area if it closes".
