Closure Of Velux Factory In Glenrothes With Loss Of 180 Jobs Is Devastating Blow For GMB Members, Their Families And Local Economy
GMB will do all it can to lobby relevant politicians and industry bodies in support of jobs at Velux and the economy of this part of Scotland says GMB.
GMB, the union for glass workers, commented on the announcement by Velux that it is to close it’s manufacturing plant in Glenrothes over the next 12 months with the loss of 180 jobs as part of a European wide restructuring.
Stuart Fegan, GMB national officer for the glass industry, said "This is devastating blow for our members employed at the Velux in their Glenrothes factory and for their families. It is also a big blow to the local economy at the factory provides high skilled jobs in a region of Scotland that has seen a significant reduction in high premium employment in recent years.
