Our members voted on a large turn out, almost unanimously, to strike as all other avenues have been met with deaf ears says GMB Union
GMB Members working for teachers' union NASUWT will take further strike action to defend their pensions and pay on November 5 and 9.
Workers will picket between 8.00 am and 10.30 am on both mornings at the following locations:
· NASUWT Head Office, Rednall, West Midlands, B45 8RS,
· NASUWT London, 65-67 St John St, Clerkenwell, EC1M 4AN
· NASUWT Tyne and Wear, 19 Witney Way, Boldon Colliery NE35 9PE
· NASUWT Birmingham, 57 Water St, Birmingham B3 1EP
· NASUWT Exeter, 1/2/Marlborough Court/Manaton Cl, Exeter EX2 8PF
· NASUWT Edinburgh, 35 Young St N Ln, EH2 4JD
Members voted for industrial action following the imposition of changes to their pension scheme which will result in members having to make 45 years contributions to accrue a full half salary pension.
This compares unfavourably with the teachers who our members represent and fight for.
During the consultations, key documents were withheld by the employer. Attempts by the GMB to discuss improvements to the proposals to avert potential strike action were rejected by the employer both during and after the consultation period.
A first day of industrial action took place on October 17
Dave Warwick, GMB Organiser, said:
"It gives dedicated trade unionists no pleasure to be taking strike action against a sister union.
"However our members voted on a large turn out, almost unanimously, to strike as all other avenues have been met with deaf ears."
