GMB And ASDA Join Forces To Sponsor Brazilian Soccer Summer Football Project For Bedford Kids From 25th July To 28th August

The money ASDA and the GMB branch are contributing will be used to hire the pitches and facilities to ensure the event can take place says GMB.

GMB members who work at ASDA Bedford CDC and the company have got together to jointly sponsor a Brazilian Soccer Summer football project in Bedford for local girls and boys aged between 5 to 13 during the summer holidays.

The Brazilian Soccer Summer School will be held between 11am to 4 pm from 25th July to 28th August at Allen Park, Queens Park, Chester Road in Bedford.

Two GMB members employed at ASDA Matt Brinsden and Bruno Gracias dos Santos presented their idea for sponsorship to GMB’s A36 branch and received total backing and financial support for the project.

Justin Openshaw, GMB Branch Secretary then asked ASDA General Managers Paul Mackay for support and Paul agreed to match GMB’s financial contribution.

Justin Openshaw, GMB Branch Secretary, said “The money ASDA and the GMB Branch are contributing will be used to hire the pitches and facilities to ensure the event can take place.

At ASDA Bedford we see this as a positive exercise that clearly shows ASDA Bedford’s management team working with GMB members to help support and delivery benefits of Bedford families.

This joint funding for Bedford kids Brazilian Soccer Summer School is just the latest example of how managers and union members can come together to make a difference to the local community.

Paul Mackay, General Manager of ASDA’s Bedford Distribution said, “ASDA is proud to support our colleagues with this initiative in conjunction with GMB. It’s great to see our people having a positive influence on the community.”
