Prison Escorts’ Anger Over Staff Suspensions At Serco And Lack Of Recognition For GMB
Serco have a silo mentality when it comes to meaningful staff engagement says GMB.
GMB trade union members staged a demonstration this morning, outside their employer Serco’s Croydon depot in Beddington. The demonstration was due to the actions of their employers Serco who have suspended a GMB Shop Steward and his colleague for no justifiable reason, coupled with the continued failure of Serco to recognise the staff’s union, GMB.
Frank Minal, GMB Organiser, said "It seems reprehensible that recognition wouldn't be in place, since Serco sanctioned GMB to access the Croydon base and allowed GMB representatives to attend training some months ago. Staff have clearly had enough of this treatment and the treatment of their union and representatives. Serco seem to have a silo mentality when it comes to meaningful staff engagement.
GMB has a long established relationship with prison escorts services, and was recognised for the purposes of bargaining long before Serco took over the contract from G4S. The company suspended our representative and his colleague on spurious grounds, immediately following a demonstration over recognition two weeks ago. GMB and its members call for their immediate reinstatement. The actions of this company are totally unwarranted.”
