Belfast Resident Wins Award At GMB 2013 Congress In Plymouth For Lifelong Commitment To Equality
Where equality is missing, people suffer and it is people like Margaret who put that right says GMB
East Belfast resident Margaret Gregg receives the prestigious GMB President’s Award for the most inspirational individual on equality at GMB Congress which opened this morning 2nd June in Plymouth.
Margaret, who is now retired, has campaigned for equal pay and negotiated the Childcare Voucher Scheme with Northern Ireland Electricity. Margaret also pursued fair employment policies and is a member of the GMB National Equality Forum. Margaret is a serving GMB branch secretary and a member of the Central Executive Council.
Margaret receives her award from Mary Turner, GMB National President, on Sunday 2nd June along with other GMB award winners and runners-up.
GMB Congress, comprising of 500 lay member delegates, is underway in Plymouth Pavilions from Sunday 2nd to Thursday 6th June. These delegates have been elected to attend the GMB Congress to represent over 620,000 members in every part of the UK and Ireland and from every sector of the economy. Congress is the supreme policy making body in the union. Also attending will be 300 visitors and guests drawn mainly from GMB organized workplaces around the UK and Ireland.
Paul McCarthy, GMB Northern Ireland Secretary, said “Margaret is a strong and determined woman who has spent a life time fighting for equality and representing GMB members wherever she has worked or been called upon to do so.
GMB is fortunate that she gives her time to the GMB National Equality Forum and continues the work that she knows so well how to do.
