Joining me on the board of Reading Town FC are Spencer Barnshaw, a branch secretary from NUT, and Martin Smith from GMB, all of us from BWTUC Trading Ltd board, as we strive to build a community based football club.
We aim to build on the years of hard work by Roland Ford who has developed the club to what it is today.”
Kevin Brandstatter, GMB Senior Organiser, said “GMB are proud and pleased to support Reading Town FC.
The club is unique in the football world being owned by a trade union body.
The club has a vision aimed at growing a community club and the club and GMB share many values. We will encourage GMB members in Reading to attend the clubs matches, and hope that other trade unionists in the town will show their support as well.
A new reorganized branch in Reading will bring together GMB members working in local government, the health service, the utilities and private companies. GMB wants this branch to be firmly entrenched in the community and we hope to use the football club facilities to support branch activities.”
