GMB To Consult Members At Circle Anglia In Bishop’s Stortford Over Unfair Dismissal Of GMB Shop Steward And Cuts To Terms And Conditions Of Employment
The allegations against the GMB Shop Steward are vigorously refuted and defended by GMB at the disciplinary process which reeked of double standards
GMB is to consult GMB members employed by Circle Anglia in Bishop’s Stortford over double standards in the company’s application of the disciplinary procedure and the unfair dismissal of a GMB Shop Steward who was sacked yesterday due to these double standards.
Circle Anglia is responsible for repairs and the maintenance at the social housing site.
Glenn Holdom, GMB Organiser said, “I will be reporting to GMB members on site, my clear perception that double standards are being followed by Circle Anglia in the application of the disciplinary procedures to managers and staff.
I have been dealing with allegations of inappropriate behaviour and of misconduct against a number of people in the company including our GMB Shop Steward and the contracts manager and other staff.
The allegations date back from over 12 months ago. No action was taken then but the allegations have now been revived and disciplinary action has been taken against our GMB Shop Steward but no action has been taken against the contract manager or others.
The allegations against the GMB Shop Steward are vigorously refuted and defended by GMB at the disciplinary process which reeked of double standards.
I asked for witnesses to be called to determine the truth of the allegations but this was refused yesterday.
GMB is aggrieved that unequal treatment has been meted out to our Steward compared to others.
GMB is aware of allegations of corruption on the part of a company manager which involve the theft of property of tenants and allegation of financial backhanders. GMB is concerned that no investigation has taken place by the company into these serious allegations.
GMB is the union on site and were not informed by the company of any concerns regarding allegations of inappropriate behaviour or misconduct and I have not been given the opportunity to take the necessary corrective action to avoid yesterday’s sacking.
In addition to the double standards I will be advising GMB members on site that the company is proposing to cut their terms and conditions and will be able to give them details.”
