GMB Welcome £15m Contract For A&P Falmouth To Customise And Support Four New Tankers For Royal Fleet Auxiliary
This is great news for the A & P Falmouth dockyard workers who have suffered some tough times over the last few years says GMB.
GMB, the union for shipbuilding workers, welcome the announcement that A & P Falmouth has won a £15 million contract to customise and support four new tankers to be operated by the Royal Fleet Auxiliary.
Dave Hulse, GMB National Officer, said “This is great news for the A & P Falmouth dockyard workers who have suffered some tough times over the last few years. It secures employment for our members currently employed in maintaining Royal Navy vessels.
In addition A & P Falmouth will be recruiting extra shop floor workers plus six new apprentices. This provides a boost for the town the local economy and the supply chain. It is also a reward for the efforts of both the trade unions and the company both working together.
The 4 new Tide-Class Tankers are currently being built in South Korea and will be operated by the Royal Fleet Auxiliary.
They will be tasked with providing fuel and other supplies to the Royal Navy vessels around the world as well as enabling the Royal Navy to refuel ships at sea.”
