GMB are to ballot members in Museum Services for industrial action over Hull Council's proposals to cut funding and services resulting in job losses to members.
A meeting was held last week with the 40 staff and an indicative ballot was unanimous in favour of a strike ballot being held.
There was a public outcry when the council announced it was closing the Hands on History museum. Members petitioned the public and got the Council to keep it open.
Members will be at the Paul Heaton concert in Hull City Hall on Saturday 31 May 2014, getting more signatures for our petition and bringing it to the attention of the public at this concert.
Shaune Clarkson, GMB Regional Organiser, said "It's time we upped the anti and brought the public into this issue. Museums have already taken cuts to their terms and conditions to save funds. It's time to fight back."
We are looking to the Council to pay the Living Wage, which they said they would but to date nothing has been announced.
We will bring both these issues to the public’s attention on 31 May 2014 when the Paul Heaton tour which is supported by GMB comes to town at the City Hall.”
