20 Jobs Under Threat At Colman’s (Unilever) Factory In Norwich
GMB will seek to have an input into the company review to ensure that all options are explored with the intention of saving as many jobs in Norwich as possible.
GMB, the union for food manufacturing workers, responded to the announcement by Unilever that they are carrying out a review at the Norwich factory of one particular process that could result in up to 20 jobs in the plant being lost to Europe. GMB is the main union in the workplace employing 140 workers.
Alan Black, GMB National Officer, said “The announcement of this review by Unilever of a key aspect of its operations at the historic Colman’s plant in Norwich will be greeted with dismay by their loyal and for the most part, long serving workforce. It is especially disappointing in a part of the UK where manufacturing jobs are in short supply.
GMB will be seeking the opportunity to have an input into the company review to ensure that all options are explored with the intention of saving as many jobs in Norwich as possible.
If in the end jobs are to be lost at this heritage plant now employing 140 workers then GMB will be insisting that this is achieved on a voluntary basis with the appropriate consultation with the union.”
