Sweet Relief in Tangerine Dispute

Firm behind Mint Humbugs, Barratt Sherbert Fountains, Butterkist Popcorn and Princess Marshmallows finally strike pay deal with union members.

GMB members were celebrating sweet relief as a long-running pay feud with confectionary company finally came to an end.

Union members had been locked in a bitter dispute with Tangerine – who produce Mint Humbugs, Barratt Sherbert Fountains, Butterkist Popcorn over a pay deal.

But after a series of strikes at the York factory – the first in 50 years – the company finally offered an acceptable pay rise last night.

Ben Kirkham, GMB organiser, said:

“Following a hard fought dispute, which has seen GMB members striking for the first time in 50 years, we are finally able to celebrate.

“Workers stood together and backed each other up through some very tough times.

“Their solidarity is the reason Tangerine got round the table and why we won.

“All parties now agree the dispute has come to an acceptable resolution.

“We are now looking forward to working with the employer in the interest of our members in the future."
