GMB New Office In Redruth Opens To Service Union Members In Cornwall And South West
The Cornwall office is part of strategy to organise workers in need of collective representation and support that only membership of a big union brings says GMB.
This week the thousands of GMB members in Cornwall and from other parts of Devon and Somerset will be served from a new office which opened in Redruth on Friday 21st June 2013.
The new GMB offices is based at the Old Arts School, Clinton Road, Redruth, Cornwall TR15 2QE.
An official opening took place on 21st June. It was conducted by Shelia Bearcroft MBE, GMB Wales & South West Regional President. It was attended by local GMB workplace organisers and Regional Officials who look after the employment issues of many of thousands of GMB members.
GMB members in the South West are employed in almost every industry and job in the region. They predominate in factories, dockyards and construction, in schools, health service, retail stores and warehouses, gas, water and electricity supply, care homes, council services, industrial civil service, Remploy, security services, tied pubs and many more sectors.
John Phillips Regional Secretary for GMB Wales and South West said, "The opening of GMB’s Cornwall Office cements GMB's commitment to Cornwall which is undoubtedly an area of the UK which has suffered from economic deprivation, low pay and job insecurity.
GMB’s current membership in Cornwall covers every industry imaginable and has been loyal to GMB through thick and thin. The new Cornwall office is part of GMB's ambitious strategy to organise workers who are in much need of collective representation and support that only membership of a major UK trade union brings."
