Strike Suspended At Briar Chemicals Norwich As New Pay Offer Put To The Vote
GMB today announced that the strike action by 124 GMB members at Briar Chemicals in Norwich in a dispute over pay has been suspended pending the result of the consultation with members over a new pay offer.
The first day of the series of 12 hour strikes was due to begin on Sunday 15th September 06:00-18:00 2013 followed by Tuesday 17th September 06:00-18:00 2013, Thursday 19th September 06:00-18:00 2013 and Saturday 21st September 06:00-18:00 2013. This action is suspended pending the outcome of the consultation
GMB members working in all parts of the plant are seeking modest percentage pay rise and have already rejected earlier offers. They voted to reject the final offer of an unconsolidated one-off payment and a one-off bonus payment without strings and the company dropped it demand for a new "Agreement of Intent" and a new Substantive Agreement by April 2014.
Ivan Mercer, GMB Organiser said, “Briar Chemicals have finally made an offer that GMB is able to recommend to our members. As a result the strike action for this Sunday and Tuesday is suspended while the ballot takes place.”
