GMB DEMANDS REASSURANCES FOR MEMBERS AFTER SSE-NPOWER MERGER FALLS THROUGH
We have called on Npower bosses to meet with us this week and give our members clarity on what the future holds, says GMB union
GMB, the energy union, is demanding reassurances for members after a proposed merger between SSE and npower fell through
The merger of two of the UK’s biggest energy firms has been called off after Npower and SSE blamed the government’s price cap and increasing competition for their failure to reach a deal.
The proposed merger between Npower and SSE was announced in November 2017 and due to adverse market condition and regulatory body interventions both companies were in negotiation on adjustments to the proposed merger agreement.
Following today’s announcement, GMB has now called for an urgent meeting with Npower.
Keir Howe, GMB Organiser, said:
“We are very concerned about what the future holds for our NPower members and we are demanding assurances from the company.
“GMB members had already expressed how worried they are about their job security and this news has only made the situation worse.
“We have called on Npower bosses to meet with us as a matter of urgency to give our members clarity on what the future holds.”
