GMB to picket Scottish Police in Fife today 14th February in pay dispute.
The workforce began an overtime ban last week and are concerned that Sodexo will be bussing in workers from other units to cover a special dinner at the college tonight says GMB
GMB union members are today picketing the new Scottish Police Headquarters at Tulliallan Police College in Fife.
The detail of the picket are as follows:
From 3pm this afternoon.
Thursday 14th February
Scottish Police College
Around 20 catering staff at the college employed by Sodexo are in dispute over a pay offer of just 1%. The GMB is claiming that the workers should receive the Scottish Living Wage of £7.20 an hour. The vast majority of the staff are on a minimum rate of just £6.37.
Richard Leonard, GMB Scotland Regional Organiser, said "The workforce began an overtime ban last week and are concerned that Sodexo will be bussing in workers from other units to cover a special dinner at the college tonight. (Thursday 14th Feb)
GMB is reluctantly mounting a picket at the new Scottish Police Headquarters. But we have been left with no choice. We want to peacefully persuade these workers not to cross our official picket line and not to carry out work which our members would normally do.
Industrial action is being taken following a unanimous vote in a democratic ballot of GMB members which we would ask these other workers to respect.
Our members have been told in a memo this week that “there will be new faces in the kitchen and service points” and that they should “assist them in learning the ropes”. They are being asked by Sodexo to saw off the branch they are sitting on and they will not do it.
They deserve the Living Wage and they have our 100% backing"
