Tim Roache delivers powerful speech to activists in Welsh capital.
Tim Roache produced a stirring speech to GMB activists in the Cardiff office.
The GMB General Secretary emphasised the stark choice facing voters when they go to the polls on June 8.
Highlighting the contrast between the elitist, privileged and vested interest agenda of the Tories with the 'for the many and not the few' philosophy embedded in the Labour Party manifesto, Tim stressed the importance of a clear focus upon policies and not personalities when deciding the future Government of the country.
Tim also made reference to the commitment to enhancing workers’ rights given by the Labour Party, and to the influence that GMB members could exert in terms of voting outcomes in the marginal constituencies particularly.
The rally was attended by the candidates for the Cardiff West, Central, North and South and Penarth seats – including Jo Stevens, chair of the GMB MPs group.
All the candidates warned of the consequences of an increased Tory majority for fairness, equality and democracy and of the tangible benefits for Welsh citizens of a Labour-controlled administration in the Senydd.
Following the rally, Tim was joined by Team GMB in canvassing activities in the Cardiff Central constituency.
Tim Roache, GMB General Secretary said:
“Yesterday at the Conservative’s manifesto launch we saw their mask slip – with raids on pensions, people with dementia, even school dinners.
“We face a very real possibility of waking up to an increased Tory majority on June 9 and that means more austerity, more inequality, more tax cuts for the wealthy while working families struggle to make ends meet.
“That’s why I am urging everyone to out there and vote for a Labour manifest which will help millions of people.”
John Phillips, GMB Regional Secretary, said:
“The danger of a Conservative majority in Wales has never been greater.
“That’s why we need people to make sure they are registered to vote – then get out there on June 8.
“It was great to have Tim make this rallying call to the troops to help us keep the Tories at bay in Wales.”
