Eight per cent increase for Queen welcome if it’s matched for other public servants, says union.
GMB, the union for public sector workers, has said that Queen's funding increase will be welcome as long as it is matched for other public servants.
The Sovereign Grant is set for a eight per cent increase from public funds – amounting to £6 million.
Meanwhile UK public sector workers are having their pay artificially capped at a 1% rise – meaning they have had an average of £9,000 pinched from their wages since 2010 when inflation is taken into account.
Rehana Azam, GMB National Secretary for Public Services, said:
“An eight per pay increase for one public sector worker would be very welcome if it's now matched for those hard-pressed nurses, school staff and police workers stuck on one per cent.
“Theresa May says the economy should work for all, so now it's time to back that up with right royal pay rise for everyone else.”
