Union warns companies not to use leaving EU as opportunity to exploit staff.
The boss of steel company is set to use Brexit as an opportunity to tear up his workers’ rights, warns GMB.
Leading Brexiteer Simon Boyd, Managing Director of REIDSteel, wrote to MPs claiming the EU has damaged his business with what he calls bad directives and regulations.
He is now lobbying for a hard Brexit so he can shred the rights his workers are guaranteed by European law.
He wants to scrap vital protections like paid holiday and paternity leave in the name of bigger profits.
GMB is warning Boyd, and any other business that try to follow suit, they must back off and guarantee workers’ rights no matter what deal Britain gets when leaving the European Union.
Dave Hulse, GMB National Officer, said:
“This is confirmation that workers’ rights are under threat from Brexit.”
“Workers didn’t vote for Brexit to have their rights taken away from them.
“We cannot allow Simon Boyd, or any other profit-chasing fat cat, to use it to their advantage.
“The GMB will campaign against any individual or company that tries to use Brexit as an attack on workers’ rights.”
