GMB Exposes Attack By Durham Tees Airport On Workers Pensions
Once again loyal committed staff are going to be held to ransom; their pensions or the airport staying open and this is unacceptable says GMB.
GMB, the union for airport workers, has exposed moves by the owners of Durham Tees Airport, The Peel Group to persuade Teesside local authorities to release the company from liabilities to local government pension scheme. This is to enable them to close the pension scheme to its staff.
Suzanne Reid, GMB Organiser, said “Since GMB exposed secret talks by the Peel Group to persuade local authorities that they be released from pensions liabilities the Company have hurriedly written to employees confirming this is a possibility.
Over the past few years GMB members have suffered numerous reviews cutting and slashing their pay and conditions of employment all in a bid to save the airport from closure. Once again it seems loyal committed staff are going to be held to ransom; their pensions or the airport staying open - this is unacceptable.
We will be fighting for our members pensions to get the Company to see sense that taking their employee’s pension from them is immoral."
