GMB Strike At Kidbrooke Park School Greenwich In Dispute Over Pay Cuts On Tuesday 16th September
Members have already suffered years of below inflation pay rises and a local increment freeze and are now saying a £88 per month pay cut is cut too far says GMB.
GMB school support staff at Kidbrooke Park School in Greenwich will be taking industrial action on Tuesday 16th September 2014 over unacceptable changes to terms and conditions that will leave members worse off by an average of £88 per month.
After negotiations to try to resolve the dispute failed GMB members will now be striking to stop changes that will dramatically impact on these hard working lower paid staff.
Nick Day, GMB officer, said “Following a Section 188 notice issued before the end of last term GMB members engaged constructively with the schools management over proposed changes to their terms and conditions.
Members are being told they must take an extra half an hours unpaid lunch break which will dramatically reduce their take home pay. These members have already suffered years of below inflation pay rises and a local increment freeze and are now saying enough is enough.
The school has left GMB members no choice but to regretfully take industrial action. Members are willing to engage with the school's management on a way forward but we have had no proposal from them that could even be considered.
GMB believes that there was no reason for the school to cut its support staff's wages like this. There has been no financial information submitted to us which states that the school is in any detrimental financial position.
We met with the school on Monday 8th September requesting that it drops its proposals and to keep the lunch break at half an hour. However there has been no movement whatsoever from the management to try and find a way forward so our members have no other option but to strike."
