GMB Seeks Meetings With Ministers And Party Leaders On Threats To G4s Security Staff In Northern Ireland
Members need support and a clearly defined action plan to ensure these threats are withdrawn and those responsible are identified and put before the courts for their actions says GMB
GMB, the union for staff in the private security industry, has written to the Rt Hon Theresa Villiers, Secretary of State for Northern Ireland and to the leaders of all the political parties in Northern Ireland seeking urgent meeting to discuss the threats to staff at all levels of G4S.
The reported threats are to G4S staff staff who carry out electronic tagging of offenders and suspects.
Michael Mulholland, GMB Regional Officer, says in the letter “GMB consider that these threats as very serious and totally unacceptable.
We are requesting an urgent meeting with yourself and your parties security spokesperson to discuss this situation.
GMB is looking for a clear message of support for our members who carry out these security duties along with a clearly defined action plan to ensure these threats are withdrawn and those responsible are identified and put before the courts for their actions.
I would wish to make it clear that GMB will seek to protect our members to the best of our ability, and would expect support from government and all political parties for our efforts.”
