GMB Yacht Targets Topshop

Thursday, March 30, 2017

Spectrum for Arcadia staff to strike again tomorrow in desperate bid for living wage.

GMB’s luxury yacht – the Decent Wage Destroyer – makes its maiden voyage today targeting Topshop and Dorothy Perkins stores in anger at Sir Philip Green’s ‘poverty pay’.

After docking at some of the best known names in the disgraced billionaire’s retail empire, the ship will join Topshop workers on their picket line tomorrow.

Staff at Spectrum for Arcadia, a division of the DHL Logistics Supply Chain, will walk out yet again in their desperate bid for decent pay.

The industrial action looks set to throw Arcadia’s deliveries from Topshop, Miss Selfridge and Burton Menswear into chaos.

GMB members have now told the company they will be taking indefinite industrial action until wealthy former BHS owner listens to their pay claim for a Real Living Wage – currently set at £8.45 by the Living Wage Foundation. [1]

David Warwick, GMB Organiser, said:

“Philip Green may enjoy skulking around on his £100million super yacht – but I doubt he’ll be quite so pleased to see ‘The Decent Wage Destroyer’ sail into view.

“Our members, loyal staff many of whom have worked at Spectrum for years, have been forced into permanent industrial action just to make ends meet thanks to Arcadia's poverty pay.

"Sir Philip’s luxury yacht costs an estimated £10million a year to run – is he seriously suggesting he can’t afford to pay his workers £8.45 an hour?"
