GMB Condemns The Proposed Sell Off Of Government Shares In Uranium Enrichment Company Urenco
Nuclear industry broken up in a way that jeopardises the future of the industry in the UK and with this sale Government is selling off more of the family silver says GMB.
GMB the largest union at the Urenco site in Cheshire, is condemning plans to sell off the government's share in Urenco. This is the company which carries out uranium enrichment.
Graham McDermott GMB regional officer said "GMB consider that the nuclear industry has been broken up in a way that jeopardises the future of the industry in the UK.
The government is now planning to sell off more of the family silver. This is a key strategic and highly profitable asset and it is being flogged off as a knee jerk response to the financial crisis and worsening deficit. We all know selling off the government's share isn't going to sort the deficit, only economic growth will do that. This is utter madness"
The sale comes after the Public Accounts Committee slated the running of the previously state owned Sellafield site which is now run by New Nuclear Partners.”
