GMB Ground Handling Staff Employed By Swissport At Stansted Airport Vote For Strike Action In Pay Dispute
The outcome of the industrial action ballot is clear as 88% voted to take industrial action to secure a decent pay rise says GMB.
200 GMB members employed by Swissport on the ground handling contract at London Stansted Airport have voted for strike action in a dispute over this year’s pay claim.
GMB is meeting Swissport managers at Stansted tomorrow and for the rest of the week in an effort to avoid the need for action.
Gary Pearce, GMB Organiser, said, “The outcome of the industrial action ballot is clear. 88% voted to take industrial action in support of their request for a decent pay rise.
These workers are faced with ever rising bills for energy, travel and the cost of living. To make ends meet they have no alternative but to seek an increase in their income to meet these bills.
GMB is available this week to meet with the Swissport managers. GMB hope that a settlement can be reached before the GMB shop stewards set the strike dates later this month.”
