GMB Refuse Staff In West Wiltshire Strike Action On 8th July In Pay Dispute

Members voted for this after a meeting with the management where they told us there would be no negotiations and no pay rise says GMB.

GMB has given notice to FCC Environment Services Ltd that members will take a one day strike action on 8th July, followed by an overtime ban running from the 9th July to the 14th July inclusive in a dispute over pay.

FCC Environment Services UK Ltd has a £2.2m per annum contract to operate the waste and recycling service in West Wiltshire covering the towns of Bradford on Avon, Melksham, Trowbridge, Warminster and Westbury and the surrounding rural areas.

Carole Vallelly, GMB Regional Officer, said  “I have notified FCC Environment Services Ltd of one days strike action on 8th July, followed by an overtime ban running from the 9th July to the 14th July inclusive.

Members voted for this after a meeting with the management where they told us there would be no negotiations and no pay rise.

I asked why there would not even be a pay rise that kept up with inflation, when £8 million had been paid out to the shareholders. I was told that they wouldn't have a company without the shareholders.  I suggested they wouldn't have a company without our members emptying the bins.

FCC said that people should be grateful to have jobs. The lack of respect they have for their employees is breath taking. GMB members are not happy and the industrial action will be solid.”
